Irish Pennants

Termed used for loose ropes' ends hanging in the rigging, or more especially in modern times, for flags with frayed flies or anything hanging loosely like threads.


Fortnightly or Monthly Insult Expression used for the money paid to individuals on pay day (ratings are paid fortnightly and officers monthly). Today all are paid monthly.


A name formerly given to ratings excused night watches


same as for ackers, meaning small change, coins.
